I was put in the right frame of understanding on Adwords only after I was being rejected from Adsense program.
Last week I gave my shot at creating online presence through blogs. I set up some blogs in wordpress, then blogspot. Having heard about the possibility of generating income from Adsense, I applied for Adsense account as-a-matter-of-factly for my wordpress blogs, and at the same time tried to 'Monetize' my blogspot blogs.
I had the impression that self clicks on the advertisement served by Adsense will simply be ignored. But I was dead wrong. Only today did I find out that it was stated clearly in the T&C, which I habitually skipped reading, that self clicking will result in the Adsense account being disabled. And the 'account being disabled' result in the Adsense world is equivalent in severity to the verdict of 'guilty of murder' in the real world!
On hindsight, I realized that when I monetized my blogspot blog, I was apparently given Adsense account immediately and ads were served to my blog (I guess this has to do with blogspot being under Google's wing). But when I applied for Adsense for my wordpress blog earlier, I was told to wait for some review result.
So, thinking that my Adsense account was still under review, and that the ads being served on my blogspot blog couldn't possibly be 'real' ads, I clicked on it!
It didn't help that those ads looked so much like 'donation drive' (microfinancing for poor country?!), that I clicked on it a few times!
So today, while trying to check the status of my Adsense review, I found that my Adsense account was already disabled to my horror!
Unless Google believes my appeal, this is probably the end of my Adsense career :(
